Tensions are rising in Assam’s political landscape as the BJP unit files an FIR against Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge for his inflammatory remarks during a public rally. Speaking in Nilbazar, Sri Bhumi district on April 6, Kharge branded BJP and RSS ideologies as ‘poisonous’ and compared them to venomous snakes, while rallying crowds to wipe them out.

The complaint, submitted by BJP spokesperson Ranjeeb Kumar Sharma at Bashistha police station, paints a grim picture of the speech’s impact. It claims the words have deeply wounded party loyalists and risk fueling social discord. ‘Kharge is fanning the flames of hatred and jeopardizing public tranquility,’ the FIR reads, backed by video evidence from social media.

Assam BJP leaders are unanimous in their condemnation, viewing the statement as a direct assault on their organizations and a ploy to sow division among locals. They fear it could lead to unrest in sensitive tribal areas. Urgent police intervention has been sought to uphold law and order.

Authorities at Bashistha station have received the FIR and initiated a probe, promising action in line with legal provisions. No word yet from Congress camps, leaving the controversy to simmer.

With elections looming, BJP portrays this as Congress’s frustrated bid to stay relevant, stressing that such vitriol erodes India’s social fabric and demands zero tolerance.
