BJP Slams Cleric for Declaring Krishna Muslim, Demands Action

A video that circulated on July 16 shows Maulana Jargis Ansari alleging that Lord Krishna was a Muslim and performed the five daily prayers, a claim that has been met with vehement condemnation from Bharatiya Janata Party leaders. Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Nirupam argued that Islam had not yet emerged when Krishna was teaching, highlighting the anachronistic nature of the claim. Senior BJP figure Baboolal Marandi queried the cleric’s audience, asking whether he was speaking to Hindus or Muslims, and affirmed that the Hindu community continues its devotion to Krishna. Mahendra Pratap Singh, the petitioner in the Krishna Janmabhoomi litigation, labelled the remarks as "abhorrent" and urged the cleric to apologise to both the Sanatan and Hindu faiths. Mohsin Raza demanded an investigation into the cleric’s affiliations, accusing opposition parties such as the Samajwadi Party and Congress of harboring individuals who insult Hindu deities and attack Sanatan culture. Maulana Yasub Abbas of the All India Shia Personal Law Board dismissed the statements as a bid for cheap popularity and called for governmental intervention to curb such irresponsible speech.
