BJP says conditions not ripe for granting full statehood to J&K

Rajya Sabha member Manan Kumar Mishra told reporters that granting Jammu & Kashmir full state status is contingent on the right conditions. He warned that celebrating “terrorists” or encouraging violent rhetoric makes the country unprepared for such a constitutional change. Mishra highlighted that stone‑pelting incidents have largely subsided since the region became a Union Territory, and that peace and development are now the priority. Only when the Centre and Parliament are fully satisfied with the security and governance environment will the idea of a full state be revisited.
