BJP MLA Saumitra Chatterjee vows legal steps over Vande Mataram controversy

BJP MLA and descendant of freedom‑fighter Banikmohan Chatterjee, Saumitra Chatterjee, responded to the Congress Working Committee’s Vande Mataram decision by pledging legal action.

He said, “If any drama is being staged at the national level, we will not remain silent. The law of the land will guide our response.”

Chatterjee mentioned that he would first discuss the matter with his family and party colleagues before filing a petition in court.

He emphasized that every political party must operate within the framework of Indian law, regardless of internal decisions made by a committee.

The MLA also warned that ignoring the legal process could lead to further escalation and urged the Congress to reconsider its stance.
