Minority outreach key to BJP’s strategy in Assam’s Nagao seat

Devashish Sharma, the BJP’s nominee for the Nagao Lok Sabha by‑poll, told the press on September 16 that the party’s outreach to minority‑populated localities will be a cornerstone of its campaign. He affirmed that the BJP expects broad-based backing across the constituency, including from areas where minority communities form the majority. Sharma praised the support extended by the state chief minister, senior party functionaries and local legislators, and pledged that the party’s development agenda will address the aspirations of all sections of society. Highlighting the BJP’s governance record in Assam and at the national level, he appealed to voters to prioritize long‑term welfare over short‑term identity politics. The election is set for October 6, with counting on October 9, and follows a period when Congress held the Nagao seat in the 2019 and 2024 general elections before the incumbent MP switched allegiance to the BJP and vacated the parliamentary seat.
