BJP Lawmakers Claim Congress Blocks UCC to Favor ‘Halala’

BJP legislator Rameshwar Sharma asserted that the Madhya Pradesh government will introduce the UCC bill in the assembly and secure its passage, accusing the Congress party of deliberate obstruction. Sharma argued that Congress is protecting outdated customs such as "halala" and attempting to discriminate against Muslim women. He called for strict legal action against those who continue to arrange multiple marriages, warning that they will face imprisonment.

Similarly, MLA Chintamani Malviya described the UCC as a law of equality that must be embraced by a democratic nation. He maintained that any resistance from Congress amounts to opposition against the rights of Muslim women and that the code will eliminate the need for controversial forms of divorce.
