New BJP Government Prioritizes Direct Land Purchase for Border Security

Since taking office, the BJP‑led administration in West Bengal has adopted a policy of purchasing land directly from owners and transferring it to the Border Security Force for fence construction. The approach eliminates delays that plagued the previous Trinamool regime, which left border land acquisition largely unattended.

Under this model, the state has already supplied 1,024.75 acres for a 172.6‑km fence, with detailed allocations to districts such as Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas, Malda and others. The government plans to seek reimbursement from the central Ministry of Home Affairs for the acquired parcels.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have both endorsed the strategy, describing it as essential for national security and a demonstration of rapid governance.
