BJP demands criminal case against officials over alleged voter fraud

The party’s statement emphasized that the alleged insertion of non‑citizens into the electoral roll is a criminal offense. It demanded that the authorities invoke relevant sections of the Representation of the People Act and the Indian Penal Code to prosecute the officials responsible for the irregularities.

Ashok also highlighted an inconsistency in the Congress government’s stance on the SIR campaign: while publicly criticizing the exercise, the same administration urges citizens to register under SIR to claim government welfare schemes. He reiterated that the SIR is intended only for Indian citizens and that extending it to foreign nationals undermines election integrity.

The BJP called for an immediate freeze on the current SIR activity until an independent investigation can ascertain the authenticity of the enrolments.
