BJP Demands Action Against JNU Lecturer Amidst Harassment Complaints
The Bharatiya Janata Party has intensified its demand for punitive measures against Congress MP Bimol Akhijam, a former JNU lecturer, after a series of sexual harassment accusations surfaced. The Delhi police, acting on a complaint from JNU's chief security officer, registered an FIR on October 11 citing several penal code provisions. According to reports, eleven students reported that Akhijam used academic meetings as a pretext to invite them to his residence and attempted sexual advances, alongside making lewd remarks in class. The university subsequently dismissed him following an internal investigation. BJP leaders have questioned the opposition's commitment to ending patriarchy and have urged the MP to resign.
