BJP’s decision to rename Rajiv Gandhi University called ‘narrow‑minded’ by opposition

Bhopal, September 2 – The recent cabinet resolution to carve out three separate technical universities from the existing Rajiv Gandhi Prodyogiki Vishwavidyalaya has ignited a firestorm of criticism. Proponents of the split claim it will decentralise technical education and uplift under‑served districts. However, veteran Congress leader Kamal Nath labeled the removal of Rajiv Gandhi’s name as a “narrow‑minded” act by the BJP, suggesting the party is engaged in retro‑active name‑plate changes rather than genuine reforms. Nath highlighted that Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure saw the launch of India’s first computerisation drives, laying the foundation for today’s IT boom. He warned that the BJP’s attempt to rewrite academic history will be remembered and that accountability will follow.
