BJP Condemns Attack on Newly Installed Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Statue in Kolkata

Just hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s planned visit to Kolkata, the pedestal of Shyamaprasad Mukherjee’s new 125‑foot statue was found damaged in the city’s central Sukhiya Street district. The lower part of the plinth was broken, suggesting deliberate sabotage.

Police have launched a case and are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the vandals. The BJP’s state leadership expressed outrage, stating that the act not only disrespects a respected leader but also attempts to disrupt the scheduled celebrations.

A formal FIR was lodged at Emtas police station, and party representatives have called for a swift, decisive response from law‑enforcement agencies.
