Senior BJP Figures Challenge Candidate Selection in Alwar's Ward 25

Jaipur, August 31 – A wave of resignations has hit the BJP in Alwar ahead of the municipal council elections, with senior functionaries questioning the party’s candidate‑selection method for Ward 25. The ward president, Jitendra Singh Rathore, along with fifteen members of his executive committee, handed over their resignations to district chief Ashok Gupta.

Rathore argued that the party ignored his appeal to nominate his wife, Hukum Kanwar, for the seat, opting instead for Ramakant Yadav, a candidate who previously contested from a different ward. He also noted that the seat, earmarked for a general‑category woman, was awarded to an OBC candidate, contravening reservation norms.

Similar grievances emerged from the Keshav division, where eight officials, led by president Mahesh Nihlani, resigned, asserting that the promised deliberative process with division heads was not honoured.

Prominent party members, such as Suresh Mehta, expressed frustration on social media, implying that the BJP is moving away from valuing veteran leaders. The OBC front’s district general secretary, Vijendra Gurjar, also stepped down, citing a systematic disregard for grassroots contributors.
