A tragic train accident near Bilaspur has claimed 11 lives, with 20 others injured. The collision occurred on Tuesday afternoon when a MEMU passenger train, en route to Bilaspur from Gevra, reportedly disregarded a red signal and struck a stationary goods train from behind. The force of the impact was so severe that a passenger coach was thrown atop a cargo wagon.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹5 lakh for the families of each deceased individual and ₹50,000 for those injured. The government has assured free medical treatment for all casualties.
Rescue and restoration efforts are actively underway at the crash site. An investigation has been launched to determine the precise cause of the accident. Officials are closely monitoring the situation, ensuring that all necessary support and medical attention are provided to the affected passengers. Senior railway officials are coordinating with hospitals to facilitate the speedy recovery of the injured.
