Choosing between a printed PAN card and its electronic counterpart depends on the nature of the transaction you are about to undertake.

If you are applying for a home loan, furnishing a rental agreement, or attending a physical interview at a bank, a hard copy is often preferred. The tangible card can be stamped, notarised, or presented alongside other original documents without the need for a printer.

For routine activities like online banking registration, filing tax returns on the Income Tax e‑filing portal, or linking your PAN to a mobile wallet, the ePAN is far more convenient. Its PDF can be uploaded directly, and most platforms validate the digital signature automatically.

A practical approach is to retain both. The printed card serves as a fallback for organisations that have not yet modernised their verification processes, while the ePAN provides quick, paper‑less access for digital interactions.
