Tragedy in Purnia: Mother and Toddler Killed, Suspect Arrested

Authorities in Purnia district have brought a terrifying homicide to light. A woman was found dead beside a drain, her head removed and taken by the alleged perpetrator, Mohammed Mofil. The forensic team also uncovered the skeletal frame of her two‑year‑old child.

The deceased, known as Pooja Devi, left her marital home to live with Mofil, demanding marriage. According to police, this demand sparked an argument that culminated in her murder. Mofil, already married, allegedly severed her head to conceal her identity before discarding the body in the canal.

Investigators used mobile location data to locate the suspect, leading to his arrest within 24 hours. The head was retrieved from the suspect’s possession, and the child's remains were found near the canal.

A dedicated task force, guided by the senior superintendent of police, coordinated with the Forensic Science Laboratory and the Delhi Investigation Unit to secure evidence. The suspect is also accused of hiding the victim’s older daughter, who was later rescued and handed over to her paternal grandfather.

Police continue to hunt for the weapon presumed to be a sharp tool that was thrown into the water. The case, recorded as Maranga police case 349/26, remains under active investigation, with authorities promising a thorough examination of all related circumstances.
