Ten-Page Dossier Submitted to Bihar Speaker Against Singh

A fresh controversy has erupted in Bihar's politics after the Janata Dal (United) moved to end the Assembly membership of Mokama MLA Anant Singh. The party has sought the Speaker's intervention a few days after expelling him for six years.

JDU state president Umesh Kushwaha called on Speaker Prem Kumar and recommended the termination of Singh's membership. The party has handed over a 10-page document along with videos as evidence to support its request.

Speaking on the matter, Speaker Prem Kumar said that the Assembly secretariat had not yet received any official letter regarding the expulsion, even though news reports had appeared in newspapers. He stated that once the letter is received, it will be examined and action will be taken according to the legal process laid down for such cases.

Reactions from leaders across parties have followed. Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said that disciplinary action is taken when a person works against the party and the leadership considers such activities wrong, adding that the party leadership has the right to act in such cases. He refused to treat the expulsion as a political issue.

Bihar minister Vijay Kumar Sinha described the matter as an internal affair of the JDU, saying every party has the right to take decisions at its own level. He also stressed the need to maintain the dignity of the alliance and its principles. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari said that every political party has the constitutional right to take action within its organisation.

When Union Minister Lalan Singh was asked about the matter, he referred the question to JDU leader Sanjay Jha. However, Sanjay Jha did not respond to the question.
