Tej Pratap Yadav Vows Legal Action After JJD Candidate’s Nomination Is Cancelled

Tej Pratap Yadav, son of former chief minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, arrived at the Bankipur collectorate on Saturday following the cancellation of his party’s candidate, Vina Manvi, by the Election Commission. The JJD nominee’s name was struck off the electoral roll after police arrested her on a pending fraud case dating back to 2009, a charge from which she later secured bail.

Expressing frustration, Tej Pratap declared his intention to approach the courts, labeling the cancellation a political conspiracy designed to undermine his party’s prospects. He addressed a gathering of supporters, stating, “We will not accept this arbitrary decision. The judiciary will provide us justice.”

The incident adds a new layer of tension to the already heated contest in Bankipur, where the BJP, RJD, and smaller regional outfits are scrambling for influence. The JJD’s removal of its candidate could reshuffle vote shares, especially among communities that previously aligned with the Yadav family’s political legacy.

Legal experts note that the Election Commission’s action is based on procedural non‑compliance, as the candidate failed to submit requisite documents on time. Nonetheless, the move is likely to be contested in higher courts, potentially delaying final candidate listings for the by‑poll.
