Teacher Nishant Kumar demands full‑time status as costs rise
Nishant Kumar, appointed as a physical education and health officer in 2022, argues that PT teachers in Bihar should be treated as full‑time employees rather than part‑time staff. He points out that the current honorarium of 16,000 rupees per month does not keep pace with inflation, leaving him to run a small jhalmuri and stationery shop after school to support his family.
Kumar says that a full‑time designation would bring a regular salary, benefits and job security, eliminating the need for a side business. He urges the state education department to revise the pay structure and grant PT teachers the same status as other teaching cadres.
If his demands are met, Kumar believes he could devote his entire working day to coaching, discipline and sports activities, improving the quality of physical education for the children of Amadanda.
The broader teacher community echoes his concerns, demanding a salary hike and full‑time recognition to stop the growing trend of educators taking up unrelated jobs to survive.
