74,737 Residents Evacuated as Flood Waters Recede in Saran

As floodwaters slowly withdraw from Bihar's Chapra (Saran) district, authorities report that 74,737 people have been moved to safer locations. The mass migration includes families from 236 villages that were completely under water.

Despite the retreat, more than six blocks still experience flooding, with the NH‑722 highway at Makrer retaining about six inches of water. Broken village roads and submerged houses continue to impede normal life.

To prevent disease outbreaks, officials are spraying bleaching powder across the floodplain. Disaster management teams are maintaining relief services, covering rescue, health, potable water, animal care, and food supply.

Medical assistance is being rendered through 54 camps that have already treated 14,212 patients. Livestock owners receive fodder and veterinary aid. Community kitchens, numbering 133, have fed 451,538 individuals, while 128 boats facilitate evacuation and transport.

Further aid includes the distribution of 55,718 polyethylene sheets to protect homes and the operation of 254 Anganwadi centres, which focus on child nutrition during the aftermath.
