Roof-top Shooting Kills Couple; Son Trapped Inside

A double homicide on a roof has sent shockwaves through Banarsia village in Sasaram, Rohtas district. The crime occurred sometime between 02:00 and 03:00 hours on Sunday night when unknown attackers infiltrated a modest home.

The intruders locked the son, Abhishek Kumar, and his brother inside a ground-floor room, then proceeded to the rooftop where the couple—Nankhi Devi (40) and Mani Bhushan Kumar (40)—were sleeping. Gunshots rang out, killing both victims instantly.

Abhishek and his brother, hearing the gunfire, raised an alarm. Neighbours, alerted by the noise, broke the locked door, freed the two men, and rushed to the roof where they found the couple lifeless and drenched in blood.

Local reports indicate that Nankhi Devi had remarried after her first husband's death, taking a neighbour’s brother as her second husband. The pair jointly operated a feed-seed business in the village, though police say no direct link to the murders has been proven.

Both bodies were escorted to the district hospital in Sasaram for post-mortem analysis. Inspector Rajiv Ranjan Singh of the Muftasil police station confirmed that the case is under active investigation, with authorities examining possible motives ranging from personal vendettas to longstanding feuds. The incident has raised urgent questions about the adequacy of safety measures in remote rural settings.
