Political Showdown in Banikpur: New Candidates Gear Up for BJP’s High‑Stakes By‑Poll

The Banikpur Assembly constituency, once part of Patna West, will vote in a by‑election on July 30 after BJP’s national president Nitin Nabin moved to the Rajya Sabha, leaving the seat vacant. Known for uninterrupted BJP victories since 1995, the constituency now faces its toughest test yet.

While BJP has not finalized its candidate, the party’s full organisational strength is already in motion. Opposition strategist Prashant Kishor has announced his intent to contest, and the Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD, is preparing its own nominee, promising a tightly fought battle.

Nitin Nabin inherited the seat from his father, Naveen Kishor Sinha, who first won it in 1995. Since his 2006 win, Nabin has been re‑elected repeatedly, making the constituency a symbol of BJP’s regional dominance.
