Police Chief Reshuffle in Bihar Following IPS Domestic Dispute
Following intense public scrutiny and domestic allegations, the Bihar Home Department has relieved IPS officer Bhanu Pratap Singh of his duties as SP Khagaria. He has been directly posted to the state police headquarters in Patna, effective immediately.
The triggering factor involves serious accusations made by his wife, Puja Singh, who claims to be a victim of sustained physical aggression and psychological harassment. She asserts that she was forced to sign divorce consent forms and has been systematically isolated from their six-year-old daughter, Vibha.
Family tensions reportedly intensified after Bhanu’s 2021 IPS induction, altering the dynamic of their relationship that began with a love marriage in 2017. Puja’s grievances led her to file an FIR at Patna’s Gardanibagh Women Police Station, naming her husband, father-in-law Uttam Singh, and two sisters-in-law, Jayamala Devi and Bheem Singh.
Advocacy for the child’s custody drew Puja to the Chief Minister’s residence on consecutive days in November. She also engaged in high-level deliberations with ADG Anupam at the police control room. Her protest campaign extended to the grounds of the Khagaria SP residence in Sasarpur.
Oversight from the Bihar State Women Commission added pressure, as the body issued a formal response notice to the IPS officer on October 26.
The department has simultaneously implemented a comprehensive transfer policy to maintain law and order continuity. Shailendra Singh moves from Shivhar to command Khagaria. Mohibullah Ansari ascends to SP Shivhar, and Raj Kishore assumes responsibility as City SP Chapra, ensuring seamless operational coverage across the region.
