Patna Cops Suspended After 11 Lakh Bribe Case Exposed

A deep-rooted corruption allegation has shaken the Patna Police department, leading to the suspension of eight officers following a massive bribery operation. The case highlights a disturbing trend where personnel responsible for law and order allegedly exploited detainees for financial gain.

The sequence of events originated from a surveillance raid on a chicken farm in Alamganj Nagar. Police intercepted the drug trade, arresting Akib Khan, also referred to as Md. Saqib Khan. During the operation, officers confiscated approximately 1.75 kilograms of smack, one firearm, ammunition clips, and an air rifle. The accused was quickly moved to judicial lockup. Concurrently, property owner Md. Aftab Alam and worker Md. Ehsan were detained at the Fulwari Sharif police station for preliminary questioning.

Despite their names being omitted from the official narcotics FIR and lacking any proven ties to the trafficking ring, the two individuals were eventually granted provisional release. Reports suggest this was facilitated by a cash settlement totaling 11 lakh rupees. An informant alleged that a broker secured 5 lakh rupees for his role, while 6 lakh rupees were allegedly funneled to the law enforcement team. The conspiracy collapsed when disputes erupted over the monetary split, prompting vigilance officials to intervene.

Following a thorough preliminary inquiry by the Fulwari Sharif Assistant Superintendent of Police, the report was submitted to Patna SSP Karthikeya Sharma. Acting on the findings, the SSP directed the immediate suspension of the eight implicated officers. The group comprises five sub-inspectors—Divakar Prasad, Narad Muni Singh, Ritesh Kumar, Pawan Kumar, and Akash Kumar—and three constables: Sabir Alam, Anand Raj, and Subham Kumar.

Legal and administrative measures are now in motion. FIRs have been formally registered against the suspended personnel, triggering mandatory departmental disciplinary procedures. Authorities have also arrested the alleged broker and recovered the 5 lakh rupees in his possession. The individual who arranged the bribe payment is being held for detailed interrogation as the probe expands.
