Parents Protest After School Van Overloads Kids

Following the canal crash that left thirteen children injured in Aurangabad, Bihar, angry parents gathered at the accident site to protest against what they describe as blatant negligence by the school administration.

Witnesses say the van, belonging to Sant Jevier High School in Amban, was carrying more pupils than its legal capacity allowed. The vehicle, already old and poorly maintained, lost control at the Tamshi bend, tipped into the canal, and the driver fled.

Parents allege that similar incidents have occurred previously, yet no corrective action has been taken. They are demanding immediate suspension of the school’s transport operations, a thorough audit of all school vehicles, and strict penalties for the driver who escaped.

Local residents assisted in rescuing the children and transporting them to Kutumba Referral Hospital, where doctors treated the injuries. Three children – a five‑year‑old and two twelve‑year‑olds – remain in critical condition at Aurangabad Sadar Hospital.

Community leaders have called on district officials to enforce stricter safety standards for private school buses, including regular inspections and adherence to passenger limits. Police have launched a hunt for the fleeing driver and promised a comprehensive investigation.
