Bihar’s road infrastructure is gearing up for a major leap as Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal cracks the whip on two vital Ganga bridge projects. In a high-level review, he delved into the Bakhtiyarpur (Karjan)-Tajpur (Samastipur) four-lane bridge, a 51.26 km lifeline starting from NH-31 and linking to NH-122.
Progress updates revealed strong strides: 45/46 foundations done, 650/1170 segments cast, and 197/1043 erected via launching gantry. Crane erections hit 100% completion for 127 segments, with CFT casting at 118/471. Pal was pleased but demanded more pace on residual tasks to unload pressure from the iconic Mahatma Gandhi Setu.
This bridge, overseen by Bihar State Road Development Corporation, will slash travel times and spur economic growth across Bihar’s divided regions. Instructions were clear: infuse extra manpower and machinery while upholding top safety standards.
The Sultanganj-Aguwani Ghat project, a stunning cable-stayed marvel with footpaths, also faced scrutiny. IIT Roorkee’s nod on foundation designs paves the way, as well cap cuttings proceed for key piers. Pal set an iron-clad 18-month timeline, insisting on weekly progress checks via contractor milestones.
Approach roads spanning 20.3 km aim for May 2026 finish, with all ROBs active save one. Pal’s no-nonsense approach ensures these gateways to progress open on schedule, heralding a connected, prosperous Bihar.
