A newly married woman in Begusarai, Bihar, has died under suspicious circumstances. She had a love marriage just four months prior to her death. The husband of the deceased claims his wife consumed poison and committed suicide after being upset about not being allowed to visit her parents. Upon receiving the information, the police took possession of the body and sent it for a post-mortem examination. However, the deceased’s family alleges that she was murdered for not providing a motorcycle as dowry.
Rakhita Kumari, a resident of Tilrath village in Begusarai, and Ravish Kumar, from Barbighi village in the Balia police station area, had eloped and married in January. Following the marriage, the woman’s family pressured her to leave her husband and return home. This caused frequent arguments between Ravish and Rakhi. Ravish Kumar stated that Rakhi’s family had come to his village, Barbighi, to take her back.
Rakhi was not allowed to go with her family. Later, Ravish left for work. When he returned home at night, he found Rakhi’s condition was critical. He immediately took her to the Balia PHC for treatment, and from there, she was admitted to a private nursing home due to her serious condition. She died during treatment. The doctor told Ravish that the woman had consumed some poisonous powder, which led to her death.
Meanwhile, the woman’s mother stated that the in-laws were demanding a motorcycle as dowry. She alleged that her daughter was murdered by her in-laws for not providing the motorcycle. The police, after receiving the information, took the body into their custody and sent it for a post-mortem examination to the Begusarai Sadar Hospital, where the girl’s and boy’s families clashed. During the confrontation, the girl’s family members beat up the boy. The police have registered a complaint and started an investigation.
