New Route for Raxaul-Haldia Expressway to Boost Trade and Logistics

In a strategic move to optimize regional connectivity, the route for the Raxaul-Haldia Greenfield Expressway is being redesigned. The modification was necessitated by the planned Raxaul Airport, whose designated land conflicted with the original expressway path. By shifting the alignment toward the Integrated Check Post (ICP), the NHAI aims to create a seamless logistics corridor that bypasses the airport's territory while improving accessibility for cross-border trade between India and Nepal. The project involves massive land acquisition across 56 villages located in eight different blocks of East Champaran, including Raxaul, Adapur, Ramgarhwa, and Chiraiya. Key villages such as Singhpur, Kaudihar, and Siswa will see significant portions of land integrated into this high-speed corridor. The inclusion of an existing 6.5 km four-lane road into the expressway’s main artery is a highlight of the new plan, ensuring that the project remains cost-effective and timely. Beyond just road construction, the Raxaul-Haldia Expressway is designed to be a state-of-the-art transit system. It will feature multiple interchanges, flyovers, and underpasses to ensure that local life is not disrupted. For long-distance commuters and freight operators, the expressway will offer amenities such as rest areas, petrol pumps, and 24/7 ambulance services. The project is expected to create thousands of local jobs and stimulate the economy of North Bihar by providing farmers and traders direct access to the sea via Haldia Port.
