New Funding Boosts Rural Roads, Transport Hubs and Industry in Bihar

Bihar’s recent cabinet meeting marked a watershed moment for the state’s growth trajectory. A staggering 51,923 crore rupees have been sanctioned for the fiscal years 2026‑31, focusing on grassroots infrastructure such as village panchayat amenities, rural road construction, potable water supply and sanitation. To fast‑track highway and bridge works, the Bihar State Road Development Corporation can now access up to 15,000 crore, while the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation is given a ceiling of 6,000 crore. The transport sector will see 31 bus depots undergo a comprehensive overhaul under a PPP arrangement, delivering modern facilities for commuters. The Industrial Investment Incentive Package‑2025 has been prolonged to December 2026, paving the way for new factories and job creation. In the agricultural arena, an allotment of 34.59 crore supports a sugarcane mechanisation programme, and 37.93 crore backs a seed development scheme under the Chief Minister’s sugarcane initiative. The cabinet also allocated funds for cultural tourism, including 2.5 crore for the Somnath Self‑Respect Festival and development of the Vaman Temple in Buxar. Patna’s municipal body is empowered to issue a 200 crore city bond for urban projects, and an extra 29.56 crore has been set aside for acquiring 88.83 acres for the Birpur airport expansion. Five new central schools will be established on government land across Madhubani, Purnia East, Rajgir, Sheikhpura and Madhupura, expanding educational opportunities.
