New 600 KM Expressway to Connect Bihar with West Bengal's Haldia Port

The journey from the northern reaches of Bihar to the deep-water port of Haldia is currently a logistical challenge, but the proposed Raxaul-Haldia Expressway is set to change everything. Spanning 600 kilometers, this high-speed, access-controlled route is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 40,000 crore. As a centerpiece of the government's infrastructure push, this expressway will bridge the gap between the agricultural heartlands of Bihar and the vital maritime hubs of West Bengal. Currently, transit times for commercial trucks can exceed 24 hours, a figure that is expected to be cut by half once the project is finished. The planned route will pass through several strategic districts in Bihar, including Saran, Patna, and Banka, before crossing into West Bengal. This connectivity will not only benefit large-scale industries but also provide small-scale farmers better access to international markets via the Haldia port. The project is currently in the land acquisition and survey phase, with NHAI working to ensure that construction follows the latest environmental and engineering standards. Once completed by 2028, this expressway will serve as a lifeline for the eastern region, facilitating smoother trade and travel across state borders.
