Munger Love Marriages Spark Debate as Three Women Post Videos

A cluster of love marriages in Munger, Bihar, has stirred fresh discussion about youth, family relations, and legal responsibility. Three women from different parts of the district have left their homes to marry their partners, and each has since shared a video explaining her decision.

The Three Cases

Priti Kumari, a resident of Vijaynagar Antil Ramtol in Bariarpur, has announced through a video that she married her lover. In the Munger Nagar police station area, Shivani Kumari has similarly admitted to leaving home to marry her partner. From Jhauabihar, which falls under Hemrajpur police station, Madhu Kumari has claimed through a social media video that she wed the young man she selected.

What the Women Are Saying

The messages in the three videos are largely alike. The women state that they left home by choice and married without coercion. They have appealed to their families not to search for them, and not to file police cases that might trouble them, their husbands, or their in-laws.

Concern in the Community

The recurring nature of these incidents has alarmed local guardians and intellectuals. Elders worry that emotionally charged decisions could damage young people's futures, careers, and safety. They are calling for caution and greater understanding within families.

Awaiting Official Confirmation

At present, official confirmation of the women's actual ages, proof of adulthood, and whether their consent was independent has not been established by police or administrative authorities.

Legal Obligations and the Path Forward

Legal and social experts emphasise that if any girl involved is a minor, the case becomes a grave offence under the law. Ensuring that child marriage is prevented and that legal provisions are followed is therefore essential.

Experts also say that sustained, open conversation between parents and young people is key to avoiding such impulsive choices and reducing social tension, so that young people can make safe and informed decisions.
