Setback for Mokama MLA Anant Singh as SC Orders Surrender

Mokama MLA Anant Singh has received a serious setback from the Supreme Court, which has ordered him to surrender by December 1. The order is linked to the murder of Dularchand Yadav in Mokama, which has become one of the most closely watched cases in the region.

Anant Singh has been expelled from the JD(U). Recently, the Bihar government submitted a counter affidavit in the Supreme Court, stating that the allegations against Anant Singh and other accused in the Dularchand murder case stand substantiated.

The Supreme Court's direction emerged during the hearing of a petition challenging the bail granted to Anant Singh by the Patna High Court. The petition, filed by Dularchand Yadav's grandson Neeraj, sought cancellation of that bail. The Bihar government also supported this demand.

Dularchand Yadav was murdered on October 30, 2025, during the Bihar Assembly election campaign.

Court Rejects Plea for Delay

The Supreme Court made it clear that the murder should not be seen merely as a political dispute. It stayed the Patna High Court's bail order, observing that the investigation remains ongoing and that witnesses must be examined during the trial. The court said Anant Singh must surrender.

In addition, the court asked the police to complete the probe within four months. Anant Singh's side had requested that he not be made to surrender immediately, citing his daughter's wedding. The court nonetheless issued a strict order for surrender by December 1.

How the Incident Unfolded

Dularchand Yadav was killed after the convoy of Anant Singh came face to face with him. Singh was contesting from Mokama on a JD(U) ticket, while Dularchand Yadav was backing the Jan Suraaj Party candidate. Workers of both groups clashed violently at the scene, leading to Dularchand Yadav's death. Several people, including Anant Singh, were arrested.

Early investigation suggested that Dularchand Yadav had been shot. The postmortem report later stated that he died after a vehicle collision or a possible heart attack.

In March 2026, the Patna High Court granted bail to Anant Singh. The Supreme Court's latest decision has now stayed that bail and tightened the legal proceedings against him.
