Misa Bharti Accused of Exposing Minor’s Identity; BJP Calls for Legal Proceedings
Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Misa Bharti faced fresh allegations after BJP legislator Sheela Pandit claimed that Bharti's handling of the Jamui harassment case led to the public disclosure of a minor girl's identity. The complaint filed on Saturday at the Secretariat Police Station states that Bharti displayed photographs of the victim in a media briefing and subsequently shared blurred versions on social media, which could still enable identification.
Pandit referenced both the POCSO Act and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, emphasizing that any breach of child privacy is punishable. She demanded that the police lodge an FIR, preserve all video and photographic material, and pursue appropriate legal action against the RJD member.
The incident has revived debates over political misuse of sensitive cases and the responsibility of public representatives to uphold child protection laws.
