Micro and small enterprises drive GeM’s growth

Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) now form a core pillar of GeM’s seller community. Registrations have surged from a few thousand at inception to 12.25 lakh MSMEs today, contributing orders worth over Rs 9.07 lakh crore. Their share of the platform’s cumulative GMV stands at 45.6 percent, while overall participation from micro and small businesses exceeds 40 percent. Industry bodies argue that GeM’s rich transaction data can be harnessed to deepen competition, detect exclusion, and shape policies that help MSMEs scale up.
