May 2026 Fuel Hikes Reviewed: Four Increases Push Prices Higher

During May 2026 the Indian government raised fuel taxes four times, resulting in a cumulative increase of ₹7.35 per litre for petrol and ₹7.60 per litre for diesel.

Since the May 25 adjustment, no further revisions have been made, and the August 9 rates remain at the post-May levels. The series of hikes reflected rising international crude prices and a weakening rupee during that period.
