Market Watch: Gold Down Rs 503 per 10g, Silver Falls to Rs 236,887/kg
Monday’s trading session delivered a welcome reprieve for those eyeing gold and silver purchases. MCX reported gold at Rs 152,267 for a 10‑gram piece, down Rs 503 from the opening price, while silver was quoted at Rs 2,36,887 per kilogram.
Both commodities have retreated from their all‑time highs. Gold’s historical peak of Rs 1.93 lakh per 10 grams is now roughly Rs 40,700 higher than the current rate. Silver, which surged to Rs 4,20,048 per kilogram on 29 January 2026, is trading about Rs 1.83 lakh below that record.
Experts attribute the decline to stronger U.S. employment figures, which have revived expectations of an imminent Federal Reserve rate hike. Higher rates tend to make yield‑bearing assets more appealing compared to non‑interest‑bearing gold and silver.
The dollar’s robustness, measured by an index around 99, has also added pressure. A strong greenback raises the price of gold and silver in foreign markets, often leading to reduced demand domestically.
While the dip offers short‑term buying opportunities ahead of the festive rush, market participants should monitor U.S. monetary policy developments, as further rate hikes could sustain the downward trend.
