Kidnapping and Murder for Ransom in Katihar: Six Get Life Terms

A Bihar judicial authority has confirmed life prison terms for six convicted felons responsible for a ransom-driven abduction and subsequent execution. The grim sequence of events unfolded in the Katihar district, ultimately resulting in the victim’s death and the concealment of his remains in the Mahananda river.

Law enforcement records indicate that the victim, Shaharul, son of Mohammad Shaqueel, disappeared in late January 2022. The family’s frantic search yielded no results until January 30, when an official police complaint was lodged. Continued efforts led to a formal investigation filing on January 31.

Detectives identified a crucial breakthrough by tracking an incoming telephone communication that allegedly summoned Shaharul to the abduction site. This investigative lead unraveled a conspiracy involving six perpetrators from Dighelia village. Authorities moved swiftly to arrest each individual involved.

Testimonies and forensic findings revealed that the culprits levied a 50 lakh rupee extortion demand. When the financial requirements were not met, they terminated the victim’s life and discarded his body in the nearby waterway to destroy evidence.

Arguing the state’s case, Additional Public Prosecutor Ramvilas Paswan presented compelling evidence before Additional Sessions Judge Pancham Vijendra Kumar. The court’s final judgment, delivered after an extensive four-year legal marathon, ensures rigorous life imprisonment for all six convicts, fulfilling a long-standing demand for familial justice.
