Karataha Firing: Ex-Army Man Surrenders at SSP Office

A violent family dispute over land and a house has left one man dead in Vaishali district, Bihar. The incident took place in Dhanushi village of Karataha police station area, where the accused brother surrendered to police after the shooting.

Somnath Singh was killed in the firing. His elder brother, Suresh Prasad Singh, who is reported to be a former Army soldier, allegedly fired the shots.

Surrender at SSP Office

After the killing, the accused went to the office of SSP Shubhank Mishra carrying the pistol and surrendered. Karataha police subsequently arrested him.

Police have also arrested Suresh's wife in the murder case. Information about her exact role is still awaited.

Background of the Dispute

Suresh and Somnath lived together in one house, while their brother Krishna Singh resides separately in a house of his own.

The brothers had been engaged in a long-standing dispute over land and a house. Village panchayats were called repeatedly to find a solution, but the two sides could not come to an agreement.

It was reported that the old disagreement had kept the two brothers on edge. On Friday, the matter escalated into violence, and gunfire ended Somnath Singh's life. The firing sparked confusion in the village, drawing a crowd of local people to the spot.

Police Reach the Scene

Sadar SDPO-2 Gopal Mandal rushed to the location with police personnel after receiving information. Police from Karataha station also began an investigation at the site.

Five empty cartridges were recovered from the scene, according to police. The deceased had two injury marks on his body. Investigators have collected essential evidence from the spot.

Initial inquiries suggest that the pistol used in the crime is licensed. Still, police are examining the full chain of events and the conditions under which the shots were fired.

Official Confirmation

SDPO Gopal Mandal confirmed the incident and stated that Suresh Prasad Singh had shot his real brother Somnath Singh over the land and house dispute. He added that the two brothers had been at loggerheads for quite some time.

Body to Be Sent for Postmortem

Police are working to send the body to Hajipur Sadar Hospital for postmortem. The investigation is also looking into the old causes of the land dispute and other aspects of the incident.

The village is abuzz with discussion over the tragedy. A dispute that multiple panchayat meetings failed to resolve has ended in murder, and police say further action will follow the course of the probe.
