JDU Plans 2027 UP Entry with Bihar Development Pitch

Political parties from outside Uttar Pradesh are beginning to position themselves for the state's upcoming assembly elections. Among them, the Janata Dal (United) stands out, after it declared that it would contest the 2027 polls in the state.

Workers' Convention in Varanasi

The JDU organised a state-level workers' convention on Sunday at Koraota Bazar in the Rohaniya assembly constituency of Varanasi. National president Sanjay Jha and Nishant Kumar used the platform to make the party's intentions clear.

Seat Allocation Under Discussion

Sanjay Jha said that the party was currently discussing seat allocation with its leaders and would take a final call soon.

NDA Partner Role Emphasised

Nishant Kumar argued that since the JDU was a partner in Delhi and Bihar, there was no reason it should not contest in Uttar Pradesh. He reminded the audience that the party had been present in the state in 2002 and 2007. He added that the JDU would fight the 2027 elections as an NDA constituent and that he would be visiting the state regularly.

Nitish Kumar Model Promoted

Both leaders backed the Nitish Kumar model for Uttar Pradesh. Nishant Kumar cited progress made in Bihar on education, employment and prohibition, describing it as historic. He said the same model should be adopted in Uttar Pradesh and that the JDU's entry would accelerate development.

Sanjay Jha stated that if Bihar had achieved a miracle, Uttar Pradesh could also see faster development.

Cash Thrown on Stage

During the event, 500 rupee notes were thrown on the stage, which became a major talking point. Shravan Kumar, the party's Uttar Pradesh in-charge and a Bihar cabinet minister, was on the stage at that time. Sanjay Jha and Nishant Kumar were not present on the stage then.

New Joinings Announced

Among those present were Sanjay Jha, Nishant Kumar, Shravan Kumar and minister Jama Khan, along with other senior leaders. Workers from across Uttar Pradesh attended. Several dozen leaders were inducted into the JDU at the event.
