Jan Suraj launches Prashant Kishor’s campaign to capture SC and OBC voter blocs
Jan Suraj, a newly formed political outfit, has announced its founder Prashant Kishor as its contender for the Bankaipur seat. The constituency is demographically mixed, with Brahmins, Bhumihars and Rajputs each accounting for about 7 % of voters, while Scheduled Castes make up roughly 8 %.
Kishor’s entry transforms the contest into a multi‑cornered race, adding a third major player to the BJP and RJD. By seeking to unite Scheduled Caste voters alongside other backward and minority communities, Jan Suraj hopes to carve out a decisive share of the vote. The party’s presence also intensifies competition for the traditional Kayastha and Vaish bases, potentially reshaping the overall caste equation in the by‑election.
