Investigators Probe Possible Psycho Gang After Dual Heists in Darbhanga

Law enforcement agencies in Bihar are wrestling with a perplexing case that has rattled the small village of Darhar, located in Darbhanga district. Two robberies, occurring within an eight‑day window, were marked by a disturbing pattern: after stealing valuables, the perpetrators deliberately cut the hair of women and a minor child.

In the first robbery, five men broke into the house of homeopathic doctor Pawan Mishra. They overpowered 22‑year‑old Krishma Devi, injected her with a narcotic, and sliced her hair before making off with jewellery worth approximately five lakh rupees and 35,000 rupees in cash. The victim was rescued unconscious and transported to DMCH for emergency care.

The follow‑up attack was directed at the home of teacher couple Suman Kumar Chaudhary. The intruders looted the property and, before leaving, used a knife to trim the hair of a sleeping young girl. The brutality of the act has sparked a wave of anxiety throughout the community.

Police from the Bahadurpur police station, supported by the forensic science laboratory and a technical cell, have secured the crime scenes and are analysing forensic evidence. While a clear motive has not yet been established, investigators are exploring the possibility that the same gang is responsible for both incidents and that the hair‑cutting serves a psychological purpose, perhaps to instill a deeper sense of fear.

Experts in criminal psychology note that such behaviour can be indicative of a psychopathic mindset, where the terror inflicted on victims exceeds the material gain. The investigation remains open, and authorities have appealed to the public for any information that could help identify the assailants.
