Investigation Launched After Vikki Mehta’s Murder Sparks Community Outrage

The murder of Vikki Mehta, the elected representative of Naradah Panchayat in Madhepura, has triggered a wave of anger across the district. On Monday, Mehta was ambushed and shot multiple times while traveling back from an inspection of a government building under construction near Nayataola Chowk. Five to six bullets were reported to have struck his body, leading to a rapid decline in his condition.

Rescuers carried the injured official to the Puraini Community Health Centre, where preliminary treatment was administered before he was shifted to Madhepura Medical College. The doctor on duty confirmed that Mehta was declared dead on the way to the hospital.

The police have secured the shooting site, collected shell casings, and are canvassing the neighbourhood for witnesses. Although initial speculation points to a personal vendetta, officials have not officially confirmed any motive. The community, still reeling from the loss, has organized protests demanding a comprehensive investigation and swift justice.

Law enforcement agencies have indicated that they are examining whether the assailants had prior knowledge of Mehta's itinerary and whether the attack was pre‑meditated. The case remains open as investigators work to piece together the chain of events leading to this brutal killing.
