IMD Warns of Strong Gales and Torrential Showers in North and East India Today

The Indian Meteorological Department released an extensive warning for today, August 8, indicating that strong gales of up to 70 kilometres per hour will sweep across fifteen states. Alongside the wind, the department predicts heavy rainfall and thunderstorms that could last for several hours.

Key regions under the alert include the capital city Delhi, its satellite towns Noida and Gurugram, as well as the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan, and West Bengal. The combination of high winds and rain raises concerns over power outages, tree falls, and water‑logging in urban and rural areas alike.

Local authorities have activated disaster response teams and are coordinating with the National Disaster Management Authority to provide rapid assistance. Residents should avoid venturing out unless absolutely necessary and secure any items that could become hazardous in strong gusts.
