IMD Forecast Calls for Intense Rainfall in Delhi, Noida, Rajasthan and More on August 19

The India Meteorological Department has released a detailed forecast for August 19, highlighting intense rainfall across the National Capital Region and several adjoining states. Delhi, Noida, and the surrounding districts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab are all under a heavy‑rain alert.

According to the IMD, the capital region could see rainfall totals of 70 mm to 120 mm, with the heaviest showers expected in the late afternoon. The forecast also predicts that Rajasthan's western districts will receive up to 100 mm, while the hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh may experience localized flooding due to rapid runoff.

The department has issued a thunderstorm warning, citing the likelihood of strong lightning strikes and gusty winds exceeding 55 km/h. Emergency response teams have been placed on standby, and municipal corporations are preparing to clear drainage systems to mitigate waterlogging.

Citizens are urged to avoid non‑essential travel, secure outdoor objects that could become projectiles, and keep mobile phones charged for emergency alerts. The IMD will continue to update its online portal with hourly forecasts and radar imagery throughout the day.
