IMD Alert: Heavy Rain for Delhi-NCR and UP as Monsoon Advances

Severe weather warnings have been expanded as the Southwest Monsoon makes rapid inroads into the Indian heartland, already encompassing a dozen states. The latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department indicates that the National Capital Region, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are next in line for intense precipitation cycles. The weather office has issued a multi-state alert, noting that the atmospheric instability could trigger heavy downpours accompanied by frequent lightning and thunder in the next 48 to 72 hours. In addition to the rainfall, the IMD has flagged the possibility of high-velocity winds reaching up to 70 kmph in several north and northwestern states. This phase of the monsoon is particularly crucial for the agricultural sector, as it aligns with the peak sowing season for Kharif crops. However, the intensity of the projected rain has raised concerns regarding drainage management in cities like Delhi and Gurugram. State disaster management authorities have been put on standby to address any emergencies arising from waterlogging or infrastructure damage caused by the forecasted wind storms.
