Local Heroes Seek National Recognition for Historic Flag Chowk

Community leaders in Purnia have escalated a long‑standing demand to grant Flag Chowk official heritage status. Former MP Santosh Kushwaha raised the issue in Parliament, while state legislator Vijay Khemka echoed the call in the Bihar Assembly, urging the government to protect the site and install a memorial.

Supporters argue that the square symbolizes the first night of India’s freedom and deserves protection comparable to national monuments.
