High-Speed Overtake Turns Tragic as Bus Hits Spectators on Bettiah Road
A deadly collision on National Highway 727 near Bettiah has left five people dead and several others injured after a bus lost control while attempting a high‑speed overtaking maneuver. The incident occurred on a stretch between Busaria and Parautola, where a festive gathering was taking place beside the highway.
Villagers had gathered to enjoy a live orchestra performance as part of a family celebration. The bus, traveling at a speed described as “uncontrolled,” tried to pass a heavy truck carrying gas cylinders. In the process, the driver lost command of the vehicle, which surged forward and struck the crowd.
The impact resulted in eighteen victims, five of whom died instantly. Three more succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment, and five remain in critical condition. Authorities have sealed off the accident site, collected the bodies, and are conducting a forensic examination to determine the exact cause of the driver’s loss of control.
