Violent attack on Arrah merchant sparks fear across town
Arrah’s community is gripped by fear after a brazen attack on local hardware merchant Upendra Kumar Singh. The 36‑year‑old businessman had just escorted his children to school and was heading home on his motorcycle when three men on a motorbike blocked his path near the bridge by the Sun Temple.
The assailants closed in, pointed a gun at Singh’s temple and fired. Singh fell on the road, bleeding heavily, and was taken to the district hospital where he was later declared dead.
Police response was swift. The senior SDPO‑1 and the Navada police station chief, accompanied by a forensic squad, reached the scene. They have opened inquiries into possible motives ranging from personal enmity and business rivalry to disputes over land or unpaid debts. Road closures and a thorough review of CCTV recordings from surrounding streets aim to identify the shooters.
Singh lived in Ward‑44 of Gautam Buddha Nagar on Ghodna Road and ran a hardware outlet in the New Bahiro sector. He had returned from his in‑laws’ home in Paliganj, Patna district, earlier that day.
The tragedy deepens a recent family loss: Singh’s father died of illness a year ago. As the oldest child, Singh bore the financial responsibility for his siblings, including a younger brother serving in the Indian Army. The community mourns the loss and demands swift justice.
