Greenfield Four‑Lane Project Nears Completion, Full Stretch Expected by 2026

The Munger‑Mirzachauki greenfield four‑lane highway, spanning approximately 124.41 kilometres, is approaching its final stages of construction. Initiated in 2022, the project was split into four packages, each allocated a portion of the total approved budget of about ₹3,792 crore.

Package‑1, covering the 22.56‑km stretch from Janakiganj to Khadiya, is reported to be 87 % complete, with full commissioning targeted for 15 November 2026. Packages‑2, 3 and 4 are progressing on schedule, with work on bridges, earthworks and pavement nearing completion.

Originally slated for completion in 2024‑2025, the project faced delays due to land acquisition, funding adjustments and technical challenges. The revised deadline now extends to June‑July 2026, with the corridor expected to be fully operational by the end of September 2026.

Once the entire four‑lane corridor is open, travel time between Munger and Mirzachauki – and consequently between Munger and Bhagalpur – is projected to shrink from the current four‑to‑five‑hour journey to roughly one and a half to two hours. This reduction will enhance trade, tourism and daily commuting across the region.

The phased opening of completed sections, such as the two‑lane segment launched on 24 September, demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to delivering immediate benefits while the remaining work continues.
