Ganga Surpasses 2016 High Water Mark, Bihar Launches Minister‑Led Flood Action Plan

The Ganga River has now crossed the highest water level recorded in 2016, according to the Water Resources Department. Minister Vijay Chaudhary highlighted that the current flow exceeds the previous peak, prompting a state‑wide emergency response. A special task force comprising senior officials has been dispatched to monitor critical points along the riverbanks.

In addition to the river surge, the tributaries Son, Punpun, Sarayu and Kosi have swollen, flooding agricultural lands and cutting off access routes in several districts. The administration has ordered that relief operations not remain confined to district headquarters; instead, ministers will travel directly to flood‑affected villages.
