Fuel Prices Remain Steady on August 29 Despite Global Oil Volatility

Even as geopolitical friction in West Asia persists, the Indian retail fuel market has shown little movement on August 29. Oil marketing companies, owned by the government, update petrol and diesel tariffs each day at 06:00 hrs, factoring in crude‑oil price changes and the prevailing rupee‑dollar rate.

In Uttar Pradesh, specific rates are: Lucknow – ₹101.86 petrol, ₹95.36 diesel; Kanpur Urban – ₹101.78 petrol, ₹95.27 diesel; Prayagraj – ₹101.96 petrol, ₹95.46 diesel; Varanasi – ₹102.23 petrol, ₹95.72 diesel; Gorakhpur – ₹102.13 petrol, ₹95.62 diesel.

The most recent price revision took place on 15 May 2026, when both fuels were lifted by ₹3 per litre. The petroleum minister has warned that OMCs are incurring daily losses of roughly ₹1,000 crore, with total under‑recovery expected to approach ₹1.98 lakh crore. Crude oil, once stable at $64‑$65 a barrel, has climbed to about $115, creating pressure on the domestic market even as the government has refrained from a broad price hike since 2022.
